Contemporary Christmas Decoractions

the shadow of evil, Robert Crais

Synopsis: On the hills of LA in flames in an abandoned bungalow, police discovered the body of a man shot in the head. In his hand, the murder weapon. At his feet, a photo album with Polaroids of seven corpses of women ... Relief to the LAPD: the serial killer committed suicide. And seven murders are solved. But it takes more to convince Elvis Cole. It was he who helped to release this man five years earlier and he does not believe his guilt until he has shot himself in the clear case ... In a crisis of conscience, summoned to account, the private detective will launch an investigation into any hazards with the help of his sidekick Joe Pike to save his honor and truth to prevail. And if the real killer was still running, crouching in the shadows?

My opinion:
History: Elvis Cole finds himself attacked by the families of new victims of a killer he helped bring out some years ago. But Elvis is sure of one thing, the man killed was not responsible for the murders. He will try to prove he's right, not without getting some politicians and police to back!
Characters: Elvis Cole is a private detective who lives in the hills of Los Angeles. When he has a conviction, it will always end. On natural Batanta, despite the troubles and threats, he investigates, between yoga and his friendship with his ex. Although it is sometimes abused, he always tries to find the truth, sometimes risking his life. He is a character which we attach quite easily and for which we sometimes hurt. His eternal friend, Joe Pike is still as mysterious behind his dark glasses and air adventurer. Even if it is not present in this book, its interventions Elvis is always helpful and knows he can count on him. There are also many other characters from previous books as Carol Starkey, a former member of the demining brigades and Lou Poitras, police lieutenant who try to help Elvis, despite the constraints of their profession. The author manages to make us appreciate all the characters from book to book and one wonders what will happen to them!
What I liked: the survey is very well done, until the final pages we do not know who is the villain, one suspects, suspected, and then finally we said that 'it is wrong and when we understand you say "oh gosh ...". Like great author who happens to play with our nerves without putting too much hemoglobin. And then Elvis has a large capital sympathy and so he is very nice to follow the investigation. There are few quiet moments, Elvis was always on the go and even threatened nothing prevents him from continuing. The conclusion about it is most surprising, the author manages to carry us until we can no longer deny the obvious, that the person was thought to be the killer is not one we thinks ...
What I did not like: I lack a bit of Joe Pike in this volume, is a character that I like!
Note: 17/20
Finally: strongly following the adventures of this duo! And then a thriller from time to time is good for the morale!
